In the knitty gritty world of state politics, a politician doesn't automatically gain power the first day he walks into the statehouse door. No, it takes years and political skills honed from experience to build relationships that translate into influence. And why is influence important? Because without it, a representative can not pass important legislation that ensures constituents' needs are met.

A newcomer can take a seat in the Pennsylvania House, but his phone calls won't be answered.

Through his leadership and his ability to navigate the world of politics, House Majority Leader Bill DeWeese has brought a world of good to Southwestern Pennsylvania - hospital wings, ambulances, fire trucks, educational programs for mineworkers, water treatment plants, important utility projects, and more. Much more.

In the upcoming months, we'll be telling you more about these projects that have brought jobs to the district, but in the meantime, ask your local leaders what would happen if that influence were gone.
